Getting Started with MRED Admissions

Application to the Master of Real Estate (MRED) program is managed through the ASU Division of Graduate Studies web-based application https://sec.was.asu.edu/dgsadmissions/Index.jsp To be eligible for admission to graduate studies, you must have the following.

  • U.S. bachelor's degree or the equivalent from a regionally accredited institution. A bachelor's degree in the U.S. is a four-year degree that follows 12 years of primary and secondary schoolwork.
  • Equivalent to a "B" average (in the last 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours of undergraduate coursework). If you do not meet the minimum GPA requirements, your application may still be considered providing your application is competitive with other applicants.

Before Starting Your MRED Web-Based Application

Before you begin the MRED web-based application, please collect the following information for use in answering questions you will be asked throughout the application.

  • A current electronic resume
  • The beginning/ending dates and location(s) of your academic degree(s)
  • Other personal information such as listing of recent honors, awards or certificates, and a record of extracurricular and/or current community/civic involvement
  • Copies of transcripts for grade point average (GPA) calculation purposes

MRED Application Requirements

NOTE: All MRED applicants wishing to be considered for in-state tuition must complete the residency section of the application. Applicants who submit an incomplete residency section or who do not meet the requirements set by the ASU Residency Classification Office will be given nonresident status http://students.asu.edu/residency 480-965-7712.

MRED Web-based Application

This web-based application collects the majority of information required by the Division of Graduate Studies, as well as the supplemental information needed by the Master of Real Estate Development program to which you are applying. It should take you about 30 minutes to complete the six sections of your web-based application. These sections include:

  • Section A - Personal Information
  • Section B - Application Information
  • Master of Real Estate Program Supplemental Information
  • Section C - Institution Information
  • Section D - Test Score and GPA Information
  • Section E - Payment Information

Items Mailed

Immediately upon final submission of your web-based application, you will see your Document Reference Number displayed. We ask that you include this reference number on all supplemental application items. This number will assist in the "matching" of your application materials. The following items should be forwarded to the Division of Graduate Studies (see address below) in a single and complete mailing, with your Document Reference Number on each of the items.

  • Cover Sheet - Include in the mailing packet a cover sheet confirming the exact name used during completion of your web-based application, the MRED program you are applying to, and your date of birth (month/day only). This information is used for authentication and matching purposes only.
  • Three (3) Letters of Recommendation - You should secure three letters of recommendation on company letterhead from your references, and forward the letters unopened in the original, sealed envelopes as part of your supplemental application materials mailing. The MRED program does not provide a standardized recommendation form.
  • Official Transcript(s) - Recommended that you have your official transcripts directly mailed from your requested college or university to address below.

One (1) unopened official transcript for each college or university attended must be submitted in sealed envelopes directly from the college or university to the Division of Graduate Studies, contact info below. If you have more than one degree, make sure you request an official transcript from the school from which you received your four-year bachelor's degree. If you are mailing in your transcripts yourself make sure they are unopened and include in your mailed packet with other items.
  • GMAT, LSAT or GRE - Include a copy of either test score in your supplemental application materials mailing. Please note if you are taking the GMAT select, Arizona State University/College of Design, code 0GZ-HJ-92.

For GRE, ASU code is 4007, Department code is not specified.
For applicants who retake the GMAT, the MRED program will only consider the highest score and does not average scores.

Exceptions to the GMAT/GRE/LSAT test requirement:

  • A candidate with a degree from an accredited college/university and 5+ years of industry related experiences, or
  • A candidate with a master's degree in one of the core discipline areas (design, construction, business, law) from an accredited college/university , or
  • A candidate with scores from previously taken GMAT, GRE or LSAT tests.

If a candidate meets one of the above exceptions, a petition should be submitted for the Admissions Committee review. This petition should succinctly state in 100 words or less the request for test waiver by the committee and be included in candidate's admission materials.
