Gary L. Birnbaum is the Managing Director of Mariscal, Weeks, McIntyre & Friedlander, P.A., a 58-attorney general civil practice law firm based in Phoenix, Arizona. Mr. Birnbaum has significant experience in all aspects of commercial and real estate litigation. He has also handled business, real estate and securities valuation issues in various contexts. In addition, Mr. Birnbaum has served as the arbitrator or mediator in more than 300 proceedings.
Mr. Birnbaum graduated summa cum laude (B.A. with highest honors) from the State University of New York at Binghamton and obtained his law degree (magna cum laude) from Indiana University where he served as Articles Editor of the Indiana Law Journal. Mr. Birnbaum has been elected to membership in Phi Beta Kappa and Order of the Coif. He is a well known lecturer on business and real estate valuation topics and has been a contributor to the Commercial Real Estate Transactions Practice Manual, published by the State Bar of Arizona, and to Nichols on Eminent Domain, published by Matthew Bender. He has served as Chairman of the Law Practice Management Section of the State Bar of Arizona and is a member of the National Panel of Arbitrators of the American Arbitration Association and The Counselors of Real Estate. Mr. Birnbaum is also a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and the College of Law Practice Management. For many years he has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America (Business Litigation, Real Estate and Alternative Dispute Resolution). He has also served for a number of years as an Adjunct Professor at the Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law at Arizona State University where he teaches advanced courses on "Private Property Rights" and "Advanced Topics in Business Law: Valuation of Interests in Real Estate and Closely-Held Businesses." Effective July 1, 2006, Mr. Birnbaum was appointed Associate Dean for Graduate Studies and Program Development at the College of Law. He is one of the founders and core faculty members in ASU's Accelerated Master of Real Estate Development program.
